One-design sailboat racing is a
popular sport in Garrett County.
There is a very active and
competitive sailing association on
Deep Creek Lake that hosts national
competitions in addition to the
regular sailing program. The
dominant class on the lake is the
Flying Scot which is manufactured in
nearby Deer Park, MD. The artist used
to own and sail a Scot and many of
his paintings reflect time spent
sailing.
